Another weapon-snatching bid was foiled in neighbouring Pulwama where policemen opened fire when militants appeared at a picket meant to guard the minority community members.

Sources said militants fired at the guard, which was retaliated. Militants opened fire and tried to loot weapons on Sunday night, but as the police retaliated they fled. No loss of life has been reported, they said.

The incidents of rifle-snatching have increased in the last month and almost all incidents have been reported from the four districts of south Kashmir. Majority of the incidents have been reported from Kulgam district.
