The National Conference (NC) today paid tributes to veteran party leader and its former general secretary Sheikh Nazir on his third death anniversary.

NC president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah in their joint statement highlighted Nazir’s unparalleled contribution to the party and termed him as a statesman who stood in defence of his principles till his last breath.

“Nazir was a courageous son of the soil who served the people and his party without any self-seeking ambitions. He neither aspired for a position of power in the government, nor did he advance any personal goals,” Farooq said.

Omar said Nazir’s demise created a “vacuum not only within the party but also in the state’s polity.” “His service to people remained the focal point of his life and he devoted his entire life in serving the party,” he said.
