Engineers in the Power Development Department (PDD) are up in arms against the government for ordering frequent transfers in the department, which is affecting its functioning.

Under banner of the All J&K Power Employees Coordination Committee, they alleged that the government is interfering in the functioning of the department.

Addressing a press conference, committee president Doulat Ram Bhagat alleged that such transfers were leaving a bad impression on employees, especially those of the engineering and other technical wings.

“Hardworking officers are being harassed and the government needs to implement a rational policy when it comes to transferring the engineers and senior officials to keep the morale of workers up,” Bhagat alleged.

The committee has demanded a transparent transfer policy as there is no such policy at the moment within the department, which is running a huge power infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

“There are a number of surprising transfer orders since the present PDP-BJP coalition took over the reins of the government and some of the officials are being transferred for unknown reasons. This shows non-serious approach of the administration which has created resentment among them,” said Bhagat.
