PDP: Proud of reasons given by BJP to exit govt

SRINAGAR: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said it would continue to work towards safeguarding “interests of the people of Kashmir and save them from tyrannical times”.

Srinagar, June 20

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said it would continue to work towards safeguarding “interests of the people of Kashmir and save them from tyrannical times”.

In a statement here, PDP Srinagar district president and MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam said the party was proud of the reasons that the BJP gave for withdrawing support to the government. “These were demands made by Mehbooba Mufti for talks with Pakistan and separatists, withdrawal of cases against stone throwers, implementation of the ceasefire on ground and measures to be taken for successful dialogue and reconciliation,” Alam said.

Claiming that history was repeating itself in the state, he said a similar incident was witnessed on August 9, 1953, when the then NC government was toppled by New Delhi. “Let those who are holding confabulations against the special status of the state become aware that the PDP is not going to succumb to any pressure and it will keep fighting for people, their dignity and honour with strong will and courage,” Alam said.

The PDP leader said since assuming office, Mehbooba had tried to ensure that the people of Kashmir were accorded due rights and a dignified life. He said from protecting the state subject law to punishing the accused in the Kathua incident, Mehbooba had remained firm on protecting people of Kashmir from the “insurmountable predicament and the conspiracies being hatched against them far from the state”. — TNS
