The Water Works (PHE) Employees Association has expressed anguish over the non-payment of wages on Diwali and alleged that the PDP-BJP coalition government was discriminating with daily wage workers in the department.
Speaking during a function to observe Vishvkarma, Association provincial president Shiv Kumar Sharma said working classes from public sectors as well as private sectors are being denied justified wages in accordance with their hard work and skill. Sharma said daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir are facing the worst form of discrimination as they are being denied wages even on festivals.
“There are thousands of workers who are rendering their service for the last two decades in the PHE Department but they are neither being regularised nor are their monthly wages are being paid regularly,” said Sharma.
The association has also demanded regularisation of all daily wagers working in the state government departments, clearance of all pending wages of the workers on a regular basis, implementation of the seventh pay commission in the state and holding a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting of all cadres twice a year.
