Thousands of people under the banner of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust today staged a protest against the Pakistan Government for placing renowned Pakistani Shia cleric Shaikh Mohsin Ali Najafi’s name in the Fourth Schedule (Anti-Terror Act) and revoking his citizenship.

The protesters also condemned targeting of Shias in Pakistan.

The protesters carried placards displaying slogan showing solidarity with Shaikh Mohsin Ali Najafi. The protesters marched from Jamia Masjid, Kargil, to Lal Chowk.

General secretary of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Mohammad Hussain told the media that its very disturbing that the renowned cleric Shaikh Mohsin Ali Najafi from Gilgit, Baltistan, had been placed in a terrorist list, while real terrorists were roaming free.

Meanwhile, speaking to the gathering, MLA, Kargil, Asgar Karbalai said the Nawaz Sharif government was engulfed in corruption and “now they are trying to protect terrorists and pleasing Saudi dynasty”.

He said, “We are against oppression and always stand with the oppressed people, whether in Gilgit Baltistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Quetta Baluchistan or in Kashmir.”

“Shaikh Mohsin Ali Najafi is an academic person and not a political person and the Pakistan Government is trying to limit his social activities,” he said.

Chairman of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Shiekh Hussain Lufti said the people should always rise against the atrocities.

He said, “The Pakistan Government is getting dictates from Saudi Arabia”.
