Concluding his three-day protest for all-weather tunnels for the Karnah and Gurez areas in north Kashmir, Awami Ittehad party (AIP) president Engineer Rasheed on Thursday visited the civil secretariat barefooted from the site of his sit-in to the Chief Secretary’s office.

Rasheed did this to express his solidarity with the people of Karnah and Gurez and protest against silence of the government on the issue, the AIP said in a statement.

Talking to mediapersons on the conclusion of the sit-in, Rasheed said the government would have to do justice to the people of Karnah and Gurez, who are suffering due to the lack of all-weather road connectivity.

“The sit-in is a wake-up call for the state and Central governments. Steps should be taken to ensure that work on these two prestigious tunnels starts at an earliest, so that precious lives, time and energy are saved,” he said.

“If the government fails to respond positively, we will hold peaceful sit-in in Delhi,” he added.
