Procedural lapses by the election staff at one of the polling stations in the Rehari area of the Jammu West constituency has forced the Election Commission to conduct the re-polling in the booth.
The Election Commission today announced that re-polling would be held at booth number 147 of Rehari-B on Monday. About 1,000 voters are registered at the booth. “There were some procedural lapses in the polling station by the election staff so we have decided to conduct re-polling in the said polling station at Rehari,” said Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, AK Sahu.
The election staff has to conduct dummy voting in their respective centres ahead of the polls in the presence of polling agents of different political parties and erase the data before the start of the actual polling procedure.
The polling staff at station number 147, however, forgot to erase the data of the dummy voting before the start of the election procedure on Saturday.
Sahu said an announcement has been made in this regard and voters of the area have been informed about the re-polling on Monday.
There is a tough contest between BJP’s Satpal Sharma and Congress nominee Surinder Singh Shingari in the Jammu West constituency and the voters registered at the centre can impact the final outcome on Tuesday.
