Jammu, March 27

Two days after the rifle-snatching incident, the main suspect, Amir, is still at large and police are under tremendous pressure to nab him.

Though the focus of the investigation is restricted to Jammu district, the police are not taking any chances and surveillance has been increased in the entire state.

The police have released the picture of the main suspect and pasted it on all important installations, including the Jammu airport, railway station and all important places. Raids are being carried out in different areas.

“Surveillance has been increased and efforts are being made to trace the suspect,” said a police officer.

On March 25 night, three youths, Amir, Masood and Shahid attacked the personal security officer of Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool chairman Maulana Dehlavi near the Masjid-Mandir point on the Tawi bridge in the Jewel area and snatched an AK-47 rifle from him. Amir’s arrest is very important for the police as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the state on April 2.
