School kids lead plantation campaign

SRINAGAR: To instill the importance of trees among children, the Department of Education on Monday started a plantation drive in the foothills of Kohimaran at Badamwari, Srinagar.

To instill the importance of trees among children, the Department of Education on Monday started a plantation drive in the foothills of Kohimaran at Badamwari, Srinagar. Officials said the event was held to carry on the legacy of plantation among students to keep the environment clean.

Director, Education, GN Itoo said the initiative was a part of the cleanliness week started by them and during the period, there would be more plantation drives in different parts of the region.

“There will be debates and discussions on cleanliness followed by involving local communities around the school and sensitising them about a cleaner and greener environment,” the official said.

The Director also promised to hold separate spring festivals and other events in the open to provide exposure to students. President, Navkriti Foundation, Rajiv Kumar adopted Government Boys’ Middle School and vowed to provide students every help, including stationery items and computers, in the coming months.

Eleven cultural programmes were performed by students highlighting the importance of trees in our lives. Teachers and students from dozens of schools participated in the event.
