State Assembly pays tributes to Kalam, ex-legislators

SRINAGAR: The state Assembly paid tributes to former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam and other former legislators who passed away after the last budget session of the legislature.

The state Assembly paid tributes to former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam and other former legislators who passed away after the last budget session of the legislature.

The Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, paying tributes to Kalam, said the former President made a significant contribution in missile technology and redefined the Indian Presidency by his simplicity and moral authority and was known as “People’s President”.

He said Kalam was also known for his immense love for children and a motivator who throughout his life continued to ignite the thoughts of the youth by his brilliant lectures/speeches and even breathed his last while delivering a speech to them.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, former CM Omar Abdullah and legislators MY Tarigami, GM Saroori, Hakim Mohammad Yaseen, Devinder Kumar Maniyal and Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar also paid tributes to those who passed away during this period. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh also paid tributes to those who were killed in the cross-border shelling in the Jammu region recently. He also paid tributes to those killed in gun battles in the Jammu region.

Recalling the contribution of Ghulam Rasool Kar, the Speaker said Kar besides working for the overall development of the state, contributed a lot in the socio-economic development of his area, in particular for raising infrastructure for schools and colleges. Paying tributes to Mir Ghulam Mohammad, former legislator, the Speaker said besides being a veteran politician, Mir was also a renowned social activist and had a remarkable contribution in the development of the state. Recalling the contribution of late Abdul Gani Shah (Veeri), former legislator, Gupta said, “Veeri always remained connected with people and worked for the welfare of oppressed and downtrodden sections of society.”

The Speaker said former legislator Sonaullah Dar strived hard to bring awareness among the farmers, besides running various schools for educating children belonging to poor families. The Speaker paid tributes to Ghulam Mohammad Misger, former legislator.
