Steps taken to streamline traffic in Valley

Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today reviewed the traffic scenario in the Valley and directed officials to work in synergy to provide succour to people.

Chairing a meeting attended by officials of the traffic police, Economic Reconstruction Agency, Beacon, Chief Town Planner and Srinagar Deputy Commissioner, he instructed the authorities to expedite shifting of the Batmaloo bus stand to Parimpora.

Through video-conferencing, he asked the Srinagar Deputy Commissioner to personally oversee the removal of illegal structures at Parimpora.

“To deter rampant roadside parking, the traffic police have identified 28 spots where parking charges will be imposed. Beacon officials and the Roads and Buildings Department were asked to sort out issues pertaining to road ownership from Pantha Chowk to BB Cantt and macadamise the stretch,” Samoon said.

Reviewing traffic management of other districts, the Baramulla Deputy Commissioner said various steps had been taken by the district administration that helped reduce traffic problems.

She said the district administration had appointed 50 Special Police Officers for the purpose of regulating traffic in the district.

The Divisional Commissioner asked the Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner to immediately start acquisition of structures at Beehama Chowk for smooth flow of local and tourist traffic.

Samoon directed the Pulwama district administration to complete the under-construction bypass in Pulwama this week to ease the traffic rush.

He directed officials to identify special spots for vendors and explore modalities of rotating weekly holidays for different markets.
