Srinagar, July 25

A day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visit to the Valley, the situation across Kashmir remained peaceful though clashes were reported in downtown here and parts of south Kashmir. The unrest following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 has so far left 46 civilians and two policemen dead.

The police said no reports of any untoward incidents came in from any part of the Valley “although some stray stone-throwing incidents were reported from some places.”  “The situation across the Valley remained peaceful and under control today,” a police spokesman said.

To avoid any law and order situation, curfew continued in the areas falling under 12 police stations of Srinagar. In south Kashmir, which has been most-affected in the past over two weeks, curfew remained in force in Anantnag, Kulgam and Awantipora. In Baramulla district, curfew was imposed in Baramulla and Pattan towns, the police said.

While incidents of stone-throwing were reported from the Jamia Masjid area today, clashes also took place in parts of south Kashmir.  Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Asghar Samoon today reviewed the law and order situation, pace of various developmental works and smooth functioning of schools in the Valley. The schools could not be opened due to law and order situation today.
