Two security personnel killed in encounter in Baramulla

Srinagar, April 2

Two security personnel were killed and an Armyman and a civilian were injured in a gunfight between militants and security forces at Hardespora village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today morning.

Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants in Kunzer village, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

The gun battle broke out when militants opened firing on the security forces, who in response retaliated.

The police said: "One policeman was killed in the encounter while an Army jawan who was injured also succumbed to his injuries at a hospital." 

The target house was cordoned off and a fierce exchange of fire took place. However, the militants, believed to be at least two in number, managed to escape from the scene, a police official said. (With PTI inputs)
