Union Minister of State in the PMO, Department of North Eastern Region and Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh, accompanied by Minister of State for Finance and IT Pawan Gupta, launched the Digital India milestone in Udhampur district. A website, Udhampur Newsline, was also launched on the occasion and a roadmap for the launch of e-District was discussed.

The Udhampur Deputy Commissioner gave a detailed presentation regarding preparedness of the district administration for the launch of the e-District project in Udhampur and around 30 services were shortlisted for the project. A detailed resume of IT-related activities and various flagship schemes were also presented at the meeting.

Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the district administration for the prompt dissemination of the Prime Minister’s campaign for Digital India and endeavouring for covering maximum government services under the project. He expressed happiness that within 48 hours of launch of the flagship project by the Prime Minister he had the opportunity to launch the prestigious e-District project and the website.

He complimented the Deputy Commissioner for devising Online Project Monitoring Portal and Human Resource Management Portal for government employees. This, he said, would ensure strict vigilance, inspection and monitoring of developmental projects and also provide the district administration a ready database of projects, infrastructure and manpower available. He called for the upgrade of this unique initiative to the state level.

The Union Minister said in financial year 2015-16 under the e-District project, so far 41 districts in 16 states had been included in the project and Udhampur would be the 42nd district in the project list of the Centre.

Minister of State Pawan Gupta also discussed various aspects of the project and highlighted the commitment of the state government for bringing in digital revolution for maximum transparency, public convenience and eliminating corruption. He expressed hope that the district administration would be able to achieve the digitisation road-map and better public service delivery.
