The University of Kashmir has decided to hold the exams of two semesters in February as there seems to be no immediate end to the ongoing unrest.

The university, which has around 6,000 students on its rolls, has been lying shut for more than three months since the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.

“The exams of two semesters will be taken together after 3-4 months. The students have enough time to prepare for the exams from the material that we are going to provide them,” said Dean, Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf.

The university recently decided to upload the study material for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses online.

“We have already started uploading the tutorials on our official website and it will be completed by the end of this month,” said the official. The official maintained that the students had about four months to prepare for the exams which would probably be taken in February.

However, the main hindrance for the students is that in the absence of internet, they will not be able to access the study material online. The internet blockade in the Valley continues since July 9.

The administrative and academic works at the university have also been affected due to the continuous shutdowns and restrictions.

Varsity officials said there was no improvement in the situation and they were not sure about the opening of the university any sooner.

“The university is closed like other educational institutions . Till normalcy returns, students won’t attend the classes. We are just providing the study material to the students so that they can prepare as the situation here is uncertain,” said another official.
