Use new ideas for waste mgmt, officials told

Minister for Housing and Urban Development Sat Paul Sharma stressed effective implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and prioritising the works under the programme so as to achieve targeted results in the given time frame.

He has also called for focusing on the utilisation of funds under the mission in the area of solid waste management.

The minister said waste management was a challenge for everyone and some innovative steps need to be taken in this regard.

The minister was addressing the officials of the urban local bodies, Kashmir division, during a meeting convened to review its functioning and performance on the overall development of cities and towns.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Asiea Naqash was also present.

Regarding the efforts of the urban local bodies, Kashmir division, to deal with solid waste management, the minister asked for practicing some innovative ideas for proper waste management.

He asked the chief executive officers/executive officers to make this an employment generation area for the unemployed youth and to earn a good profit out of it.
