Srinagar, March 27

A senior Army officer today said a large number of the Valley youth wanted to join the armed forces, which indicates the changing mindset of the people in Kashmir.

“The writing is absolutely clear on the wall,” said Brigadier Pankaj Sinha, Commandant, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre.

“Few days ago when a recruitment drive was held here more than 25,000 youth had come and it shows how the mindset has changed. People now realise what is wrong and what is right for them,” the Brigadier said on the sidelines of the passing out parade here.

The officer, who reviewed the passing out parade and the attestation ceremony at the JAK LI Regimental Centre, termed large number of the Kashmir youth coming forward to join the Army as a “sign of peace”.

Earlier, 183 youth from the state were inducted into the Army at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre.

“With crisp movements and singing the regimental song, the young soldiers took the oath to devote their lives to protect their motherland from all odds,” a Defence spokesperson said.

Brig Sinha also addressed the young soldiers and guided them as they begun their journey in the Army.
