Srinagar, December 3
A massive search operation was launched in a high-security zone in Srinagar after a lorry was abandoned by two unidentified men in the wee hours on Saturday close to Raj Bhawan.
Sources said the lorry was abandoned by the two persons close to Raj Bhawaan after a security man signalled the driver to stop for checking at around 3 am.
“However, the driver and another person left the vehicle and fled towards the forest area. Senior police and security officers rushed to the area and an alert was sounded,” sources said. “A massive search operation was later carried out in the forest area of Zabarwan to trace the two men who were not carrying any weapon,” the sources said.
However, no one was detained during the search.
The security forces also carried searches around Raj Bhawan located on the high-security road stretch. The Governor is currently in Jammu, the state’s capital during winter.
A police officer said the abandoned lorry had been stolen from the old city on Friday evening and a case was registered in MR Gung police station. “We are investigating the theft case,” he said.
