Jammu, January 4
Balwant Thakur, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), J&K and Director, Natrang, called on Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan here today.
Thakur apprised the Governor of the activities undertaken by the ICCR’s regional branch during the past year and the programmes planned to be organised in 2018. He also informed the Governor about the dramatic performances staged by the Natrang group with particular focus on the preservation and promotion of traditional art forms of the Jammu region.
Complimenting Thakur for his continuing contribution towards strengthening theatre activities in the state, the Governor pointed to the usefulness of enlarging the performance of street plays which disseminate powerful social messages and highlight the problems of the common masses.
Meanwhile, M Raju, Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, accompanied by Ashok Gandotra, Chief Engineer, PHE, also called on the Governor at Raj Bhawan.
The Governor discussed with them issues relating to the increasing requirement of water supply for the pilgrimage and to meet the requirements of the shrine’s supporting establishments. After discussions, it was agreed that the Secretary shall hold a further meeting with the CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and other officers concerned for a complete review and assessment of rising demands. — TNS
