Members of the majority community on Tuesday held a protest against the police alleging it had failed to take action against an accused from the minority community who had beaten up two women and chopped their hair on June 13.
The police said an FIR was registered against the accused and his family members under Sections 354, 325,323 and 452 of the RPC.
People alleged that due to political pressure, the police had adopted delaying tactics to arrest the accused who had gone underground.
“The main accused, identified as Pamma, is absconding since the incident took place. However, the allegation of political pressure is baseless. The accused and his family members have been booked under various sections some of which are non-bailable,” said SSP Yougal Manhas.
Those who have been booked by the police were identified as Pamma, his wife, mother and Tanveer Sharma who had shot the video of the women while they were being thrashed by Pamma. Tanveer reportedly made the video viral on the social media.
