Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. It was ranked 28th among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2017. Careers360 has given it the second best rating, "AAAA+", among engineering colleges in 2017.

Courses offered: Currently, IIT Mandi offers BTech programmes in four disciplines namely — Computer Science Engineering, Civil Engineering; Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

It also offers MS in fields of basic sciences and engineering, MSc in chemistry and MTech. in Energy Materials. It also offers Ph.D in the field of engineering and basic sciences. 

Cut off: JEE advanced 2016 cut off opening and closing rank 1701 and 7124 respectively.

Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla

It has 131 PG and 100 MBBS seats. IGMC has also been granted the status of Regional Cancer Center by the Government of India, thus providing much needed comprehensive cancer care to the cancer patient.

IGMC is having post graduate courses in 20 disciplines and over 2900 MBBS students, 923 postgraduates and 377 in diploma students have passed out from the institute and DM courses would be started shortly, Principal Dr Ashok Sharma said. 

Admission schedule: The admission is through NEET merit and centralised counseling. From this session the MBBS seats in five government medical colleges has increased to 500 with opening of two more colleges at Mandi and Chamba.

The College has earned the rare distinction of joining the select band of 19 prestigious colleges which have been accredited “heritage status” by University Grants commission.

Himachal Pradesh Government Dental College and Hospital

The Himachal Pradesh Govt. Dental College & Hospital is the only premier dental institution in government sector in Himachal. It has an intake capacity of 60 BDS students per year.

Courses offered: BDS, MDS and para dental courses are offered to the students. MDS is offered in seven specialties, including oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral medicine and radiology, prosthodontics, paedodontics, and endodonrics offering two seats in all specilised fields.

Admission schedule: Admission is through NEET merit and centralised counseling and the college is most sort after the IGMC and Tanda medical college in the state.

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur

The National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NITH)  is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology established, administered and funded by Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The institute offers a comprehensive curriculum for undergraduate, graduate and doctorate studies in various fields of engineering, pure sciences and humanities.

This institution had been ranked as best NIT in terms of infrastructure by the World Bank in 2007, and creating engineers in 15 faculties including architecture, chemical engineering civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, management and humanities, physics, chemistry, energy and environment, material science, mathematics, statistics.

The college laboratories are well equipped and the  library offers wide range of books in all streams. The process of computerisation of the library has been initiated  through INFLIBNE which is a UGC sponsored library automation programme. The college has also provided internet access to every department of the college through HIMSWAN.
