The Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), founded in 1995, has been named after the 15th-century saint and environmentalist Guru Jambheswar Ji Maharaj. In the last two decades, the institute has been focusing on the areas of research in higher education, with focus on new frontiers of science and technology, engineering studies, environmental studies, media studies, pharmaceutical sciences and management studies.

The university has emerged as a premier institute that inspires, motivates and nurtures professional excellence. The reason why the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the university with A grade. It has held its position since 2002. Also, it has its grade extended for another two years i.e. till 2021.

As per a recent announcement by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), the university figures among 21 state universities of the country, which have been awarded autonomy by UGC. The institute enjoys the freedom to hire foreign faculty, enroll foreign students, give incentive-based emoluments to the faculty and run open-distance learning programmes. 

Counting success

The pharmaceutical science department is ranked 47th in India by NIRF in 2018.

The h-index, which measures quality as well quantity of research, is at present 70, which is highest among universities and institutes of Haryana.

MHRD has also recognised the university for its Global Initiative Academic Networks (GIAN) project, a prestigious scheme that significantly elevates the quality of teaching process through participation of foreign faculty. The university has successfully completed six GIAN projects so far. 

The university is currently offering 50 regular graduate and post-graduate courses in different streams of M Tech, M Sc, integrated B Sc-M Sc M Pharma., MBA, MCA, MPT, MCom, BTech., B Pharma, BPT, etc. and the launch of some other courses is under process. Besides this, there are 16 professional courses in various disciplines offered through open-distance mode.

For equality sake

A few schemes have also been initiated for the education of the girl child. Reservation of one seat for admission to various courses for the female candidate is one such step. The university also supports granting maternity leave to women students. It is among the first few in the country to reserve supernumerary seats for students of North-Eastern states. 

More power to education

Recently, the state government has redefined the jurisdiction and authorised the university to exercise its power on all colleges that fall in the Hisar District.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar says, "The university is financially supported by state government, UGC, AICTE, and other department and agencies under various schemes, besides generating its own resources through fees, consultancy, etc. In the last two years, the university has received highest grants in Haryana from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, MHRD and Rs 10 crore from Centre's Department of Science and Technology under Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) scheme.  The university has been shortlisted for presentation for becoming the Institute of Eminence".

The university has collaborated with Telangana as well as North-East states for cultural exchange and has received laurels. Students’ participation in youth festival programmes organised in different parts of India is a great learning experience for them.
