An emotional moment

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle received the 5thYash Chopra Memorial National Award at a ceremony held in Mumbai on Friday. She was felicitated by evergreen actress Rekha, who shared her memories of Asha and kissed and touched the latter’s feet. Also, present at the event were Pam Chopra, AlkaYagnik, Jackie Shroff, Parineeti Chopra, Poonam Dhillon, Jaya Prada and others.

Talking at the event, Rekha said, “I absolutely adore the Mangeshkar sisters. Between them they have sung close to 90 per cent of the songs in the Hindi film industry and that’s just phenomenal. I feel my performances in movies went up a notch because of Asha ji’s songs. I would feel the pressure to match up to her soulful renditions and get my act perfect. The constant feeling of having to meet her expectations also kept me on my toes and kept me going.”
