Kat Von D’s make-up products are highly pigmented.

Last month, if Gwen Stefani broke the Internet with rumours of her impending cosmetics line (by the way, it will be called P8NT), then last week Kylie Jenner brought San Francisco to a halt, courtesy her pop up make up store. “I can’t wait San Fran,” she posted on Instagram and well, San Fran didn’t wait either. More than 2000 fans swarmed the streets making all the shops shut down to reign in the chaos. Was it for make-up, or was it for Kylie? We’d never know but the reality TV star isn’t the only one with a cosmetics line after her name. Rihanna, Eva Mendes, Drew Barrymore, Kim Kardashian West, well the list is endless, but together they have not just given us great music, movies and reality shows, they’ve given us bullet lipsticks, glosses, highlighters, well the list again is endless. Taking stock of some of the celebrity inspired make-up lines that city based beauty experts swear by.

Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner

It was only in 2016 that Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner came into being. The reality TV star raked in mega bucks since the launch of her wildly successful lip kits. Last checked, she totaled 420 million dollars in a record 18 months and was looking at a figure of billion dollars by 2022. Her line now consists of an empire of products comprising eyeshadows, illuminators, good old bullet lipsticks. While the reviews stay mixed, the product lines continue to sell in seconds, because Kylie is a social media giant. “The glosses are what I recommend and their bullet lipsticks are hard to get by but I have heard some great reviews,” Dhruvi, freelance make-up artist who was earlier with Lakme chain of salons, shares.

Kat Von D

Yet another of those multi-hyphenated personalities, but a celebrity tattoo artist first and foremost. When Kat Von D’s cosmetics line was first launched in 2008, the beauty world expected a very niche line, looking at the gothic packaging of the products.  Celebrity inspired cosmetic launches often spell limited edition, which only means discontinuity in products. Not with Kat. Rachit Malhotra of Femina Plus, strongly recommends the contour palette by Kat Von D. “The products are so pigmented and wear so smooth that it’s a delight to work with them. Her products are pigmented enough to even hide a tattoo, may be that has something to do with the fact that she herself is a tattoo artist.”  Perhaps, the only celebrity artist that city based make-up experts unanimously rave about. Tanvi KG from iStyle Makeovers, is excited about the just launched 10th year anniversary collection by the make-up label. “It’s the quality of the products, which you come to know of in single use. Also the fact that her products are highly pigmented makes it the best celebrity line.”

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna broke into the highly competitive make-up category by launching a 40 shade foundation range.  Every time, Rihanna sets out to launch a new collection or a product, fans get in line and how. Like they did to get the ‘Rihanna glow’ with her latest spring launch body luminsers Body Lava. Invisimatte Blotting Powder by Fenty Beauty is another product that Tanvi recommends.

A few environment and skin friendly lines

It would be a little tough to put the likes of Kardashian sisters in the herbal, skin friendly or all natural line of cosmetics but thankfully, a few celebs spared a thought (and a whole lot of effort) in launching lines that spell less chemicals. Jessica Alba, post motherhood, launched a chain of environment friendly products for home and personal use. Honest Beauty came into being as a result of a worried mother about the chemicals in baby products. Her chain did well enough to make Forbes take note. On similar lines and for same reasons, Miranda Kerr launched her own organic skin care line, Kora Organics, a brand all about natural oils.  Adds Dhruvi, “Honest Beauty Everything Tinted Moisturiser is an amazing skin perfecting moisturizer. But I think it’s been discontinued.” Well, celebs come in limited edition!
