Step up: Dalip Tahil

Singing is what veteran actor Dalip Tahil held close to his heart as much as acting; but sadly in his long innings spanning four decades, he hardly got to sing nor was a song picturised on him.

When he asked for one, he was brusquely brushed aside, when have villains started getting songs of their own, he was asked. But, then that was when our film industry had not opened up its vistas.

In the recent years, Dalip has started getting some really interesting projects, now, is the actor-singer in him kicked, “I am in the best phase of my life. No more are the actors slotted in stereotypical roles. I am getting some really fascinating projects,” shares Dalip who was recently seen in mythological serial Siya Ke Ram.

“I just got to play King Dasaratha, something that would not have come my way any time before this,” says the actor who has been a popular face on Brit shows. Siya Ke Ram made him speak chaste Hindi something that he thoroughly enjoyed doing. Apart from his acting projects, in films and telly, Dalip has been working hard on his singing these days.

“I was never given any singing roles nor was there a chance to sing, but now with boundaries diffusing and content getting afresh make over, I am longing to make most of my skills.”

No wonder, he crooned Louis Armstrong’s I see trees of green, red roses too/ I see them bloom, for me and you/ And I think to myself, what a wonderful world...as he took up stage as the celeb guest for a cancer fundraiser recently in Chandigarh.

“For me it is a huge honour and privilege to be with the ones who beat cancer and emerge victorious.” He was in Chandigarh to mark Pink October, a unique event titled Pink Catwalk that was organised at Hotel Hyatt by Cancer Sahyta Sahyog and Pink chain of Hope as a fund raiser for early detection of cancer.

“The fundraiser that involved a fashion show was a charity event supporting the noble cause of spreading awareness about breast cancer,” Said Lizeth Hererra, wife of British Deputy High Commissioner in city and a co-organiser of the event.

Back to Dalip, though he is yet to lock his next project. There are options in plenty, “There are some amazing offers and roles that I never imagined coming my way, I am sure I would continue to act but now singing is not going to take a back seat,” says the determined he!
