His head dug into his music console, the popular Punjabi music director Jassi X looks at the keys as if they are talking to him. He closes his eyes, takes a deep sigh and hits a key, which echoes a sweet sound. “Now, this is what I wanted,” Jassi X, smiles, his doe-shaped eyes smiling with him too.  With popular songs like Chandigarh Returns 3, Meri Sardarniye, Roon Wargi, Deck Swaraj and Mohali Waliye to his credit, this music director from Batala, Punjab wanted to be a singer, but somehow he ended up being a music director. “Destiny, I think. This word can describe the events in my life better than anything else,” he smiles sitting in the plush studio at his Mohali apartment, all thankfull to Bunty Bains. “As kids we all have fascination for various professions, some even weird, but, I always wanted to do something in music. I always wanted to sing.”

Realising that their son would not take up any other profession other than music, Jassi X’s parents motivated him to flow with the music, totally and completely. “This is when I started learning about how music is made, I went to many people to understand this but they were not very helpful. Some were reluctant to part with the knowledge. So, I decided to learn it myself, and here I am working with the best singers of the industry.”

However, in all this, Jassi X too had to deal with his destined struggles. “Loads, actually,” he is quick to add, “Struggle is the other name for success, struggle is the phase when you can do your best,” adds he. Today, apart from all the Punjabi singers who want to work with him Jassi X would want to do music for Honey Singh and Diljit Dosanjh. He has apparently heard a lot of Honey Singh. “People these days like beats in all the songs, something that Honey Singh would offer, in a way I relate to his music and of talented singer Diljit’s.”

Currently this young music director is working on many projects, and there is something that he always wanted to do. “I wanted to be a singer, so I am working on a couple of my own songs, which I would release next year.”
