Got the ‘single on Valentine’ blues? Girls, how many of your ‘taken’ friends are actually being given a helicopter ride anyway? Boys, you don’t have to groom, splurge and please (in the same order). If a survey by NearBuy (Indian commerce venture into coupons and deals) is to be believed, over 60 per cent of the people make their Valentine’s Day plans last minute. Spontaneity is all the more possible when your status reads single. Ask these celebs...

There’s always family

Hopefully, I'm off this weekend and hence I'm planning to be away from work as well as from Mumbai this Valentine's Day. It will be a good break for me as I have been working around the clock. Work gives me immense happiness but everyone needs a break. This Valentine’s will be a short break. Also, for all the single people out there, just treat this like any other day and enjoy yourself to the fullest! If you don't have a partner, go out and enjoy with friends and family. That is the best thing to do!

— Gautam Rode, television actor

How about a singles party!

I am a die-hard romantic, but if you are single on Valentine's Day, nothing to fret about. Celebrate yourself and your loved ones. Splurge on yourself, spend a day at the spa, go out for dinner with your friends or throw a singles party! I celebrate Valentine's Day with either my friends or my mum and we go out for a great meal, catch a movie and just spend some quality time together. This year though I am going to be with my single friends and I know it’s going to be a super night.

— Sophie Choudry, singer, former MTV VJ

There’s so much to do

So, singles on Valentine’s Day can actually do a lot of things. Celebrate with family, friends, watch a nice film, pick out their favourite dishes and have a foodie night, head out of a town to a nice location and just enjoy themselves. I kind of had a pre-Valentine celebration in Rajkot with all my friends at a friend's wedding which was good fun. Though on the 14th, I plan to chill with my family through the day.

— Shantanu Maheshwari, dance reality contestant, choreographer

Look at the bright side

Why be sad? Think of the pressure that people who have Valentines go through! Life is short and it comes only once, live it happily and live to the fullest. I have come back home for an extended weekend and will be celebrating the day with my family.
