Hair is a story

‘My mood depends on how good my hair looks’, now this is no understatement. Hair is a story

Snip it: Aastha Nanda

‘My mood depends on how good my hair looks’, now this is no understatement. If few days back it was French President François Hollande and his hair-raising bills that garnered interest on social media; it’s our own late President Abdul Kalam and his love for locks is the latest on the ‘mane’ front. And, No, it’s not the Presidents only who are possessive about their tresses...

Coming all the way from Delhi to Chandigarh every other week to get a hair cut, styling them every hour, making the stylist a part of their important occasions to passing on the lock love to the next generation, for many a city folk, hair care rules the life and here’s how...

Shaan se…

Shaan is a special person in author Preeti Singh’s life. So much so that when this content writer-turned-author launched her first book, Shaan was invited as a special guest. Whenever Preeti is down and out, she heads straight to this man, deft in his craft. “For me hair is your ultimate style statement. If it looks good, I am out to conquer the world,” shares the lady who fondly called ‘Phoolwali’ among her friends for more often than not you will see her hair adorned with flowers.

Money can buy happiness

Preeti is totally besotted with her crowning glory. “I do not spend as much on bags and shoes as I do on my hair,” she confesses. Being a sardarni, she wouldn’t let scissors touch her tresses but then what stops her from being stylish? So her locks are arranged in steps through a careful procedure and ever maintained with candling. And, you thought only Hollande is spending time and money on his hair?

Man in need

Shaan’s been special because he came to her life when she was losing her mane and was worried sick over it. Not only this hair stylist restored Preeti’s hair back to its previous glory but styles them ever so differently that she wins many admirers.

In flying colours

Lunatic is how Aastha Nanda describes her hair story. Not a day that hair looks the same as the other. Currently supporting ear length you can find them curled, wavy or straight depending on her moods. “Your entire look depends on your hair style. I just can’t have them boring.”

From black to white, brown to blue, pinks to purples, there hasn’t been a colour that this young pilot has not tried. Pixie to shaved, don’t even start on the looks.

Money can buy happiness

Between the cuts, colours, keratin and spas, Aastha spends a bomb, “Even if I try to put a figure to it, that just wouldn’t be possible.”

Man in need

“For more than a decade, I have been trusting my mane with Rachit Malhotra. You know there are not many people who can do great short hair, and he just rocks.” Ever since work took her to Delhi she has been coming every alternate week to Rachit for nobody else that she trusts. So much so that once she was flying her Boss’ wife and kids to Satna, Madhya Pradesh and she loved her hair that were three different colours that day and they ended up making a special visit to Chandigarh so that the Boss’ wife could get her hair styled too from Rachit; of course in the plane.

Left, right and centre

Now, here is one boy who just cannot stop having fun with his hair. This model-cum- marketing professional checks his hair every hour, much to the annoyance of his boss who worried sick about this 25-year-old who is more focussed on his mop.

Top notch

“My face is slim, so long hair suit me. They are swept to the left when I go to gym; to the right when I go to work and puffed backwards when out with friends,” says Shubham”. Yes, it’s is an expensive affair. Products costing thousands a pack don’t last more than two weeks with him but then you don’t compromise on your hair, do you?

Left, right and centre

For Col Sachit Mahindroo, the love for hair started in his teens. His parents put up most supportively when he showed up home in Baba Sehgal style; and little later with strange stripes on the sides. Well, as they say history repeats itself. Col Sachit now has to put up with his teenager Riya’s hair soiree. Barely in her teens, she couldn’t resist streaking her mane in fiery red and indulgent father supported fully on their last US visit.

Top notch

“My hair experimentation came to ‘zero’ when I joined the defence service. Over the years, one gets the liberty to experiment a bit that I duly do and yes nobody can stop you from indulging in hair spas that I totally enjoy,” shares Sachit.

Man in need

“For years it’s only been Asif, my man to go and he is going to be.”
