I want to be known by my father’s name: Yuvraj Hans

Music industry seems to have taken a liking to recreations. The trend made huge in Bollwood, and now Punjabi singer-actor Yuvraj Hans is taking a plunge with this. The artiste goes on to recreate the magic of the song Nachan To Pehlan sung by none other but his father - Hans Raj Hans. New beats, a brand new treatment, additional lyrics and music by Jaani and B Praak, Yuvraj calls the track a proud moment in the family. But first, what made him get zero in on this track.

“I always wanted to recreate my father’s songs. I had 2-3 tracks in mind and Nachan To Pehlan sounded just right.” Yuvraj shares how he had been hunting for the right kind of lyrics, “Nothing was clicking, and I didn’t want to do just about any song for the sake of it. I would rather wait for it then do any riff raff. Finally, I have three tracks which will be releasing pretty soon,” he shares.

Coming back to the recreation, Yuvraj is relieved that it has turned out well. “My only fear was whether we would be able to justify the new version of Nachan To Pehlan. So, Jaani, the lyricist and music director B Praak sat together to discuss what we needed to retain, what we could change and after numerous meetings and recordings we had the new Nachan To Pehlan.”

It is but obvious that the first person to hear the track was Hans Raj  Hans. Yuvraj laughs, “Fingers crossed... But he had all good things to say about the track when he heard it,” adds Yuvraj who considers his family as his best critic ad best audience. “My family comes first, I think this the reason I could face ups and downs. I have utmost respect for my parents, they are the reason I am here.”

While it is difficult to carry the weight of legacy, Yuvraj calls it the best part of his journey. “I understand that I have a responsibility. I have to be doubly careful while selecting songs or even while behaving in public. But what is wrong in this? I would love to be known by my father’s name, after all he is the one who got us where we are.”

Keeping up the family name is on reason what keeps Yuvraj away from singing songs promoting violence and drugs. But at the same time, he doesn’t understand the need to such songs. “My father, Sardool Sikander, Gurdas Maan - all of them sang songs without the mention of all these. Weren’t and aren’t there songs popular. However, I don’t blame just the singers. The audiences should neglect such songs. Romantic or sad songs do not get a thumbs up while songs on haithiyaar are a huge hit.”

Many think that social media has to be blamed for this, and Yuvraj agrees to this to some extent. “Social media is a necessary evil. If a singer doesn’t share songs, it is a loss. If you are faking hits, it is the worst. Social media, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook all this should be used judiciously,” shares the artiste who is all set to tie knot in December 2018. What is interesting, Yuvraj feels he is already a changed man, “I have a mature and understanding partner so this is the rub off affect,” he smiles.

Yuvraj Hans will be a part of Crossblade, two-day Punjabi music festival that aims to bring alive the ethos of Punjabi culture. With over 40 artistes, the two dedicated music stages, the event will depict different musical forms and eras rooted in the region. The event is being conceptualised by Speed Records and EYP Creations.
