The Fall’s indispensable garment shed some weight, picked some flair, changed a few colours and on the way became spring’s favourite accessory.

Summer jackets take you through the in-between season to the much hotter months. And while at it, helping get past sun tan, blasting ACs, cooler airports and colder multiplexes. There’s one for every place and reason.

Shares Amanjot Bajwa, Chandigarh-based designer and a fashion graduate from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, “It is one of the most versatile pieces of garment to have in your wardrobe. A summer blazer an all-season fabric in pastel shades does the trick. Team it with any dress, jeans and tee for a more casual look or a lacy formal dress for evenings out.”

Kimono jackets

Back in 2011, kimono was a craze, what with the likes of Nicky Hilton and Nicole Richie often sporting the kimono look perfectly. It was a craze that only returned stronger each year. Only this time with a slew of new celebrities!

Closer home, actress Alia Bhatt was spotted wearing one last year. Dressed in a floral Zara kimono, teamed with light shorts, she brought out her quirky side during the promotions of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

How to wear one: A floral kimono jacket should always be teamed up with solid colours. Not another print and never a contrasting colour. Sport them up with a black vest and denims for fail-proof and safe look.

Denim jackets

Denim jackets can be warm enough and cool enough, thereby becoming the most versatile garment in any wardrobe. Not to forget a celebrity staple. Whatever they might say about pairing denims in the same colour, Kate Mara wonderfully did the dressed-up version of denim on denim, adding the jacket to a little denim dress at the Louis Vuitton show for Fall ’14.

How to wear one: There aren’t really any rules for sporting one. Go on, put them on over a floral dress and maxi dress, a long skirt or even a pair of denims itself. As long as one knows how to carry them off— it’s denim, have fun!

The white summer jacket

Enough has already been said and written about the classic white shirt. It’s time they labeled the white summer jacket just as much of a classic.

The cool white blazer has always been a hot with celebs and how. Be it model Olivia Palermo taking her dog out for a walk in New York City or Emma Watson looking flawless in a white blazer with black skinnies while making an appearance at the David Letterman Show. It could neither get more chic or versatile.

How to wear one: A white blazer is best teamed with an all black outfit. Black and white are classic contrasts to carry you through the luncheon party, a day at the office and even an outdoors evening.

Linen blazers

A well tailored linen blazer in a bright summer hue is a steal. Not long ago Miranda Kerr put together a pink blazer, white top and blue denims to establish her killer off-duty looks. This wasn’t the first time the super model-turned-mom was wearing a pink blazer teamed with denims.

How to wear one: A linen blazer in white colour is quite likely to look like a lab coat, unless it is tailored meticulously. Prefer summer shades of bubblegum pink and lemon yellow for the garment to lend a summer feel.
