Mika turns wiser

He doesn’t set his mind on buffer to come up with the smartest answer to any question; he just says the first thing that comes to his mind. While many adore this quality of his, others see it as being subtly pompous. No matter what is said or written about the popular Bollywood singer Mika, he wouldn’t stop saying what feels right to him.

While in Chandigarh to perform at an event organised by Red FM swaag Naal Sat Sri Akal. The Tribune was the media partner for the event, Mika doesn’t look a bit tired, given that he has flown straight from the USA. Just an hour of resting, and the singer is ready to spill the beans, if you call it so.

First things first, handling success is no easy feat, what say? “See, I have travelled and done a lot of shows with Daler bhaji (Daler Mehndi), I have seen so much with him, seen how humbly he deals with everything, now success cannot uproot me. Secondly, very early in my career I realised that at the end of the day, my fans are not bothered about how much gold I wear, what brand’s shades I have, they are concerned about how I sing and perform on stage. Never would you hear any fan of returning from any of my live show disheartened,” shares Mika. But, hang in; the singer has some interesting anecdotes to share. So, here you go.

No matter how good or bad a live show is organised by the organisers, Mika doesn’t believe in creating issues because he believes that his fans should not suffer for no fault of theirs. “I wouldn’t name, but I know of a singer who walked out of a live performance because he wasn’t served chicken burger and tea that he had asked for,” adds Mika wondering how someone can even do a thing like this, “I can never dream of doing something like this.”

Forget about dreaming about this, how about dreaming about a pretty face, and bringing it in life! “Jad tak bache han, bache rehan do. Honestly, I keep saying it always, but I plan to settle down next year for sure.”

And what kind of girl does he see besides him. A singer? “I always thought of marrying only after I got settled in my career, which I am. So, this part is sorted. Next, I have no hang ups about what profession she should be from, I just wish to bring a warm hearted person in my life,” he adds.

Someone here has matured really fast. “Oh! Me, you are talking about. Well yes,” he laughs. No more controversies then?

“One thing before I get talking about it, have you ever heard of any controversy with my fan. I am sure, not even a single one. In the past whatever controversy happened with a model or anyone, I have always owned up if I was wrong. I don’t drag issues; in fact, I don’t see any use in doing so.”  This seems like reaching the pinnacle of maturity. Mika laughs, again. “See I have an attitude, which I don’t throw around. I know when and where to use it without stepping on someone else’s toes. More or less, I am always the same person with everyone.”

Does this hold true for his choice of music as well. Has it been the same always? “If it is Sufi music, I like listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, I also listen to Kishore  Kumar  and Lata Mangeshkar.” We wonder whom does Mika listen to in party songs? Is he a party animal anyway? “My party and my meditation is when I am performing live or when I am in the recording studio. People often ask me, how I manage to create such hit party songs, and I tell them, I focus on lyrics and I ensure that when someone listens to a party song, they should feel I am sitting with them, singing it aloud.”
