Mirror, mirror on the wall…

It’s hard not to go back to the recent shameful speculation by India media over the pressures of a career under limelight.  Well, there is pressure but why does pressure have to be a bad thing. Or even vanity for that matter. Right from Cleopatra to Cinderella, from bathing in blood to turning to a fairy Godmother, beauty treatments have always amazed us. Bringing together the latest that the beauty industry has to offer.

Sheep placenta facial

Half a decade back the sheep      placenta facial made it to headlines, courtesy its proponent Victoria      Beckham. At the time, the beauty industry and several women were disgusted      by the idea of slathering sheep’s placenta on their faces. Well, vanity      won and the procedure has only caught on. With do it yourself placenta facial      mask sheets available all over the world at the click of a button now. “Sheep      placenta just like human placenta is full of nutrients and has more beauty      benefits than human placenta. The stem cells in them help in the      anti-ageing process,” says Dr. Prabhu Mishra, CEO, StemGenn Therapeutics.      “Sheep placenta being a 20 year old technology in Switzerland, is a part of cell      therapy which is widely used for collagen, wrinkles, tightening and      brightening skin.” For those who don’t want to spend a million bucks or      travel a thousand miles, “Using creams and supplements made from the      placenta can actually activate the natural oils that are already in your      body Due to its regenerative properties and anti      inflammatory cytokines from enriched growth factors, it helps to      induce angio genesis, as well as new collagen genesis.”

Skin      resurfacing

Aging, sun exposure, lifestyle, genes—The count of factors taking a toll on the skin are literally countless. “As you consider skin resurfacing, regardless of technique employed, skin resurfacing is a controlled injury to your skin. It is prudent to understand that our skin needs rejuvenation too and to regularly attend to its needs with safe procedure which delay/ reverse signs of skin damage. M22 is a multi application platform for treating more than 30 skin conditions,” Dr Nidhi Singh Tandon, city based dermatologist, shares of yet another beauty treatment.  “On several patients, we perform Ipl first followed by resurfx in the same sitting … it helps take care of tone as well as skin texture and gives overall skin rejuvenation. The fact that both the modalities are present in a single machine helps make the process much easier and time saving. Patient comfort is optimal and 1-3 days of downtime is expected. These procedures target only the superficial layers of the skin and gently erase out the outer layers of dead and damaged cells. They stimulate new layer of skin cells which give a tighter, brighter and younger looking radiant appearance.”

Frotox

As if the infamous (and equally      famous, actually) Botox wasn’t enough.       Well, this is an alternative treatment available for those not in      favour of getting injected with Botulinum toxin. “Frotox is a cryotherapy      for the face which uses liquid nitrogen streams to be injected near the      nerves causing facial expressions, in return literally freezing the nerves      for around 4 months,” says Dr. H.K.Kar, Head department of dermatology and      cosmetology, Paras       Hospitals, Gurgaon.

Fluid facials

“Fluid facials are designed taking care of the menstrual phases of the woman. It is helpful for those looking for slowing the process of aging, treating pigmentation and de-tanning. Oxygen is infused in the skin in this painless method using oxy-jet spray,” shares a city based dermatologist Dr. Richa Saluja.

Lymphatic drainage facial

“Due to the ageing process, the lymph drainage is slowed, leading to puffiness under eyes; swelling of the face due to sodium retention in the pre-menstrual syndrome. For conditions like these, lymph drainage massage helps in draining the lymphatic fluid to the lymph nodes, therefore, removing the puffiness of the face and providing natural glow to the skin,” adds Dr. H.K.Kar, of yet another treatment gaining prominence in the beauty world.
