Mohe rang de Basanti…

We mark the 70th Independence Day today. Just like Tri-colour and the Independence Day parades, desi clothing is essential for celebrating the national holiday. But let’s face it, the orange chunni, white kurta and green bottoms combo is something we repeatedly do and it gets monotonous. So, let’s think different this time and take inspirations from celebs.

Tri-colour bangles

If being the typical orange, white and green girl from head to toe is not your thing, then make sure your accessories highlight these colours and especially bangles as they can be the most Indian thing to wear. Pair up greens, oranges and whites together like Preity Zinta did during the final of ICC World Cup and you would be making a statement.

Military wear

Give tribute to the soldiers, who gave us freedom by styling your look in a military jacket, preferably of khaki colour like Ranbir Kapoor here. Again, military fashion is in for the men and looks great with both Indian and western overalls.

The Nehru jacket

Dress up like the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Nothing shouts more classic for men than a Nehru jacket like Saif Ali Khan’s here that again can be paired up with a kurta or a shirt underneath.

Be trendy

Florals are in! Wear these in one tone shades of either orange, white or green and you would be sticking to the theme without overdoing it. Elegant cuts like Priyanka Chopra’s outfit here could do wonders. You could also go for a white outfit with orange flowers and green leaves.

Keep it casual

Waking up early for the flag hoisting or office activities and that too dressing for the occasion can be a little hectic for ladies. Wearing a heavy outfit seems pointless, so keep it casual in a cotton kurta and harem pants like Kareena Kapoor Khan here and add one of the colours from our Tricolour or stick to the blue through the long shrug like Bebo. Adorn a tribal neck piece.

Teleport to that era

Fashion in the 40s was extremely feminine and graceful. Get a feel of the fashionable women of the classic era by going black and white. Add vintage accessories or style your hair in a vintage fashion like Sonam Kapoor here.
