Richa Chadha has made waves in B-town with her acting prowess and ravishing looks. Now, she is out to make a mark as a producer with the Punjabi short film Khoon Aali Chithi. This sensitive, sensible 15-minute-film goes back to days of terror in Punjab.

In Chandigarh for the promotion of the film, she shines in white. “I want to give cinema with good content,” says Richa, admitting point blank that between her acting assignments and production, she is having an anxious time.

Troubled times

Khoon Aali Chithi, Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short film, traces the story of two brothers leading a normal childhood that turns tragic. Amritsar-born Richa, who claims to be a total Punjabi brought up in Delhi, recalls the troubled times. “Even if you don’t directly see it, you hear the elders talk and feel it. Sadly, in any conflict, whether between two countries, political parties or religions, the price is paid by the common man.”

Even while staying in Mumbai, the actress has kept in touch with her extended family and Punjab, “It’s in my blood.” And, this true vegetarian swears by her dal, chawal, papad and achar!

Up next

Richa sure is acting (gear up for Fukrey sequel), writing a book and also learning how to ride a bike, but production is not on her mind. “One needs loads of time for it; that I surely don’t have at the moment.”

Parents first

One couldn’t help but notice Richa Chadha’s parents’ name tattooed at the back of her wrist even as one moves towards the director of the film Rupinder Inderjit, who also has his parents’ signature — Inderjit and Tarwinder — tattooed! “I got it first,” he shouts. While his are in Punjabi, Richa’s parents’ names — Kusum and Somesh — are in Hindi. “I got it done on Valentine’s Day a few years ago; thought boyfriend to change ho jayega,” she laughs.
