‘Our industry can be ruthless’

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working in Bitti Bussinesswali where I am portraying the role of Akshata. The role is positive and progressive. The look is Indian and I am enjoying sporting sarees.

Out of all your shows, which one has been the closest to your heart and why?

The show closest to my heart was Bahu Hamari Rajnikant, which was my last show. It was a beautiful amalgamation of a unique concept, talented actors and amazing producers. It was my very first attempt at comedy and I loved portraying my character.

Do you think it’s tough to make a name in this industry?

With the growing competition, every day numerous new faces are trying hard to make it big. It is an incessant struggle to enter the arena and then keep yourself up in the game. Our industry can be ruthless. Making a name is tough, but maintaining it is even tougher.

What challenges did you face when you first came to Mumbai?

When I left Delhi and came to Mumbai, the biggest problem I faced was that nobody was ready to rent out a flat to a single girl who wanted to be an actor. In addition, I faced numerous rejections and skipped meals to give maximum auditions in a day. Nevertheless, I am happy to have gone through these lows because success is sweetest for those who have tasted the bitter fruit of failure.

Who do you look up to in the TV industry and why?

Without taking any names, I look up to those achievers who are still themselves. Success can do various things to you. It can corrupt your brain or make you more grounded. So, if you can work your way up while still being grounded at the same time, that’s absolutely admirable.

How do you unwind yourself?

I hear old Hindi songs and ghazals. Lata Mangeshkar is my all-time favourite.

What about future plans?

An ALT Balaji web series is in the pipeline and is going to release very soon. I would really love to do more of performance-oriented roles.
