Dynamic duo Yo Yo Honey Singh and Alfaaz are back on the scene with an aim to repeat the feat

Jasmine Singh

There is a heady mix of cacophony of sounds, almost twenty people are adjusting the light and sound on a diametrically long stage. Two people, sitting at the far corner are busy sharing notes. There is a rapt attentiveness on both the faces. In flat five minutes, both the shadows are creating caricatures with their dance movements on stage. The crowd is yelling louder with every aaha, oho and Yo!

Yo Yo Honey Singh and the quiet but a fire on stage, Punjabi singer Alfaaz has hauled up the crowd with their tracks. One after the other, Hai Mera Dil, Putt Jatt Da and now the very recent track Girlfriend, which brings Yo Yo Honey back on the scene (figuratively) with his old pal and singer friend Alfaaz.

The song which has been sung for the film Dili Wali Girlfriend is making rounds on the music scene.

The two very different in being similar artists get candid about their camaraderie, those creative hiccups, the personal journey and more.

Scrap book

Yo Yo and Alfaaz have known each other for a long time now, almost eight years.

“I was ideally writing songs for various singers when Honey Singh Bhaji met me in 2007,” shares Alfaaz. Soon this nice boy of the music industry was writing and singing with Yo Yo. They formed a group Maafia Mundeer, which gave numerous hits. “I liked his vocabulary and usage of words, but I suggested that his name wouldn’t appear anywhere because I wanted to check how people reacted to his songs. And much as I thought, they were an instant catch and we got the genie out of the bottle,” says Honey Singh who is the pink of his health these days.

House on fire

The two talented struck an instant rapport with each other from the word go. To Alfaaz, “Bhaji is very dedicated; if he sits down to make music at five in the evening, then no matter what he will finish the song and get up.”

As for the rapper-music producer, he found Alfaaz to be different. “He loves his work, he puts depth in his word and music, something that I admire in people. I get along with genuinely hard working people,” adds Honey.

Personal touch

Alfaaz in his personal life is very introvert, but he is known to be yaaran da yaar and same holds true for Honey Singh. “Honey Singh is the most genuine person I have come across, if he likes something, he will say it on your face. If he loves you work or you as a person, he will say it out and he is very emotional,” Alfaaz puts across looking at Honey Singh for his turn. “He is yaaran da yaar,” says Honey.

Roll on

Yo Yo Honey Singh is going to be all over the music scene now, as the word has it. Alfaaz has certainly planned a lot with him for sure. “We’ll be doing a romantic track soon, and besides that I will be doing a lot of Bollywood projects as well. At the same time, I will strike a balance between Punjab and Mumbai,” he laughs with Honey nodding in approval.
