One-and-half hour is not just unfashionably late, rather it is on the extremely wrong side of punctuality. But even before the petite and chirpy Neha Kakkar can put things straight with a giggle, the over zealous organizers are more interested in first giving a tour of things, personal photo ops than address the waiting media. Anyway, over to the Bollywood playback singer who’s lately been making all the right tracks. “Actually everything got delayed and I was coming from Delhi and with such tight schedules. I haven’t slept properly for days,” she is earnest as she intermingles excuses with apology, while in the city to inaugurate a lifestyle exhibition.

Perhaps, best known for Manali Trance, followed by Honey Singh’s Sunny Sunny, for Neha Kakkar, the journey into playbacks singing started with a not so hopeful note. “I did not even win the Indian Idol. In fact, while in the top eight, I got eliminated,” she recalls. Not long after, the song Second Hand Jawani proved to be second innings. “That is when things really picked up and there has been no looking back,” shares the girl personally in love with soft romantic numbers. Ironically, just the kind of tracks missing in her body of work. “I think I can do justice to such songs but music directors think my voice is good for dancing numbers. But if you’ve heard the Punjabi song Akhiyan, that is quite different,” shares the girl, in love with Chandigarh.

With the current crop of Bollywood actresses popularly rendering unplugged versions of songs, it is time the singers took questions pertaining to acting. “I feel really nice when somebody asks me if I have any acting plans. But I don’t know how to act.” Coming up is, “Oh lots and lots of songs, starting with a track with Gippy Grewal himself. That should be out in January.” She adds, “Then there is song called One Night Stand to be featured on Sunny Leone, yet another titled Desi Rock Star , a romantic number Sanam Re from Mastizaade.” That’s lot to look forward to in the near future.
