Reel take: Ranjit Bawa

Forget about his next movie or talks about future projects, Punjabi singer-actor Ranjit Bawa is not sure whether he will be able to sleep well a night before the release of his film Bhalwan Singh!

The film, directed by Param Shiv, and made under the banner of Nadar Films, Rhythm Boyz Entertainment and J Studio, releases today. Ranjit Bawa made his acting debut in Vekh Baraatan Chaliyan, now Bhalwan Singh sees the singer play a solo hero. “This is what makes me slightly nervous, this is a

solo hero film,” shares the singer, who already enjoys a huge fan-following for his songs. “I am confident; I am working with the best banner that has done films like Bambukat, Love Punjab and Angrej. I am confident about my role in the film as well as the story.”

Strong message

Bhalwan Singh has loads of comedy but with a sense attached to it, something Ranjit would like to elaborate on. “This is a story of a man, Bhalwan Singh, who is nowhere close to being a balwan. At the same time, the film also has a strong message that the strength of a person lies not only in his well-built abs; strength can be depicted through talent, through thoughts and actions as well.”

Though it was the subject that rang a bell in Ranjit’s mind, he also thinks it is important to choose the right kind of banner. “The banner plays a vital role. For instance, I am working with a team that is known for films like Angrej, Vekh Baraatan Chaliyan and Love Punjab, some of the best films of the Punjabi industry. So, I know that they will take care of the story and rest of the things associated with the film.”

Team players

While Ranjit Bawa is dealing with his Friday blues, a team of young producers, Karaj Gill, Amiek Gill and Jaspal Sandhu are confident about this project. Given their looks and age, they can easily pass of as co-actors in the film. Laughs Amiek, “Who would have taken me as an actor.” Which is why he decided to become a producer?  We hear the laughter again. “This is not something I would like doing, anyone can become an actor by investing their own money. My interest has always been in good filmmaking,” shares Amiek, who did his animation course overseas, dabbled with real estate before he ventured into films.
