Maxis are making splashes on the fashion scene. But you should pick the right type to flatter your body type

At a seaside soiree, celebrating Labour Day or simply in labour pain, there’s a reason why maxi dresses have lasted the day and already made a return trip from the clearance racks. Classic and practical, maxi dresses continue to show up in high street labels, fast fashion brands, on celebrities and in collection notes.

Who says only higher hemlines can be jaw dropping?

For designer Stephany Dsouza, the relaxed silhouettes created a fluid line as showcased at Lakme spring summer last year. “The relaxed living of my home state Goa influenced this collection. The focus was on elegance and comfort in large measures.” Little wonder, the collection in layers of georgette, silk, chiffon comprised blue long smock gown, fuschia gathered maxi dress, flared orange gown to the V-neck flowy maxi in pastel shades.

Forever flattering; which maxi is for you?

It goes without saying fashion never follows absolute rules, only a couple of suggestive guidelines.

Got curves? Right!

Sometimes busty, sometimes pear shaped, several women suffer from problem of plenty! Just look at the Kardashian clan (Kim Kardashian is often seen sporting a maxi for casually day out) to figure what to wear and even what not to wear! Depends on where the curves are, but curvy women can go for maxis that gradually flare out. The cinched waist will highlight just that tiny bit of midriff. While top heavy women should stay away from skinny straps. Instead go for V-neck which balances out the heavy top by showing off the right amount of collar-bones.

A little short? No worries

Don’t have legs that continue endlessly? It’s a misconception that shorter women can’t carry off maxis. Only, don’t go in for maxis with larger prints, horizontal stripes and colour blocking. High waistlines give the illusion of length.
