Look wise: Gippy Grewal in Subedar Joginder Singh

Jasmine Singh

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan increases and decreases his weight with every new project; Randeep Hooda lost weight to get into the bony frame for the film Sarbjit while Raj Kumar Rao gained for his much-appreciated film Bose. Body transformation is sure a trend that is here to stay. Can Pollywood lag behind then?

Inspired by Aamir

Punjabi singer-actor Gippy Grewal gained 25 kilos for his upcoming film Subedar Joginder Singh. “This is the first big transformation that I have gone through. I had to put on weight because I had to look every inch like 41-year-old Subedar Joginder Singh.” A personal trainer and dietician accompanied him on the sets throughout the shooting. “The size of stomach needed to match Subedar Joginder Singh’s and I think I have managed that.”

For another scene that will be shot in a day or two, Gippy needs to be like the 25-year-old Subedar Jogidner Singh, for which he had to shed extra 20-25 kilos that he had added! “I am really inspired by Aamir Khan; he drastically changes his look for the roles.”

Lean brigade

Punjabi singer-actors like Ammy Virk, Ranjit Bawa, Mankirat Aulakh and Diljit Dosanjh too have followed suit. Ammy Virk in a social media post revealed that he had lost 22 kilos in the past one year to get into his role of a hockey player. Ammy diligently worked with his trainer Sam Dhillon for it. Same holds true for singer-actor Ranjit Bawa, who had to come down from 88 kilos to 68 for his role as a hockey player in the upcoming Punjabi film Khido Khundi. “I didn’t have a single morsel of roti for almost three months; I was on a strict protein diet, which was managed by the great hockey player Sandeep Singh. And not to miss, post shooting I had to work-out in the gym for three-four hours daily.”

War zone

Diljit Dosanjh has been extensively working on his body for films too. The singer is a religious gym-goer and now owns well-stacked abs for his roles. Diljit had earlier gone through body transformation for his Punjabi film Sardaarji 2. He has also grown a beard for his upcoming film on World War I, titled Rangroot.
