Dancing diva: Jaja Vankova

Manpriya Singh

What started as a harmless pursuit back home in Czech Republic at the age of 10 hasn’t countered so much as a speed breaker. At the age of 14, she was a professional already. A career decision that paved way to a crew based in Houston, Texas.

Dance has literally taken Jaja Vankova places. India it is, at the moment, Mumbai to be precise. “I am going to meet the students and I am quite excited to be training and mentoring them,” shares the Czech dancer and choreographer, who’ll be mentoring the three passionate dancers on the Bindaas dance reality show Bindass Naach. The show will portray the real journey of three passionate youngsters to an international dance championship to represent India.

“I’ll be teaching them little bit of my style and I’ll see a little bit of their style and tailor them accordingly. I’ll be teaching them the moves, and how to present themselves .” We’re sure it takes a lot, to put the professional foot forward and to be a good dancer too. “To excel in any field and especially in dance, the most important thing is to push yourself. With the students too, I’ll be challenging them to their limits.”

Bowled over by Bollywood

Fitting into the description is also contribution to the largest theatrical producer Cirque Du Soleil. Having trained in different styles like animation, robot, krump, popping, locking, hip hop, she proved her mettle with hypnotic dance moves on reality competition show, So You Think You Can Dance. While the genres she performs in continue to add on each year, there are some that are yet to happen.

“I have heard a lot about Indian classical dances but never seen any of them.” She adds, “Yes, I have seen Bollywood dances in movies and otherwise heard about them. I don’t know if Bollywood is a style or technique but it is quite fun to watch. I especially enjoy the music. It is fun and goes with the dance style,” shares the dancer, who was seen as a robot girl in the fifth series of Step Up All In and the movie Wild For The Night. Movies, theatres, countries, shows; dance has taken her places.
