1,369 bottles of illicit liquor seized

KHANNA: The police have claimed to seized 1,369 bottles of illicit liquor in three different incidents in and around Khanna.

The police have claimed to seized 1,369 bottles of illicit liquor in three different incidents in and around Khanna. One alleged accused was nabbed in this regard while in the other two cases, the two alleged accused managed give the police a slip.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarabjit Kaur Bajwa said a police party had put up a check point near MARKFED on the GT road. Officials manning the naka noticed a four-wheeler roaming suspiciously in the area. When the police signalled driver of the vehicle to stop, he accelerated and tried to run away after crashing into the barricade, said the DSP. The police party chased the vehicle, but the driver of the four-wheeler fled taking advantage of the darkness, she added. On searching the vehicle the police recovered 912 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands, the DSP said. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Excise Act in this connection.

In the second incident, a police party nabbed a scooter-borne person, identified as Nirmal Singh, a resident of Daudpur, and recovered 41 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands from his possession. A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections.

In third incident, a police party had put up a naka at Ghudani village. Policemen noticed a driver of the four-wheeler while parking the vehicle on the road side and fleeing after he saw them. The police party became suspicious and on checking found 400 bottles of illicit liquor in the vehicle. A case was registered under relevant sections in this connection against unidentified person. 

The DSP said the police was trying to identify and arrest the alleged accused, who managed to flee from the spot.
