Special Task Unit (STU) today claimed to have nabbed two members of dreaded Baba gang and recovered weapons from their possession. It was learnt that the gangsters were in the city with the motive of committing some robbery.
The nabbed gangsters have been identified as Paramjit Kumar, alias Pamma, a resident of Golden Avenue Colony, Rahon Road; and Rohit Dhir, a resident of Mehatpur, Nakodar. The police have recovered a pistol of .32 bore along with five cartridges and another of .315 bore with two cartridges from the gangsters.
Additional DCP (Crime) Satnam Singh and chief of the STU Prem Singh said both gangsters were not only associated with Dilpreet Singh, alias Baba, gang, who is wanted in various heinous crimes, including murder, attempt to murder, robberies and loot, but were also closely linked with gangster Honey Kumar, alias Katti, who used to supply firearms to the Baba gang.
The ADCP said two weapons recovered from the gangsters were also supplied to them by Honey.
Rohit was declared a proclaimed offender by the court in a rape case. Later, he was arrested and jailed for six years. He started smuggling liquor and was also declared a proclaimed offender in a smuggling case.
“Rohit and Pamma were smuggling liquor on a large scale. We will seek their police remand to interrogate them about the whereabouts of the kingpin of the Baba gang,” Prem added.
On September 14, the STU had also nabbed the key member of the Baba gang involved in the cases of murder, loot, robberies and carjacking.
The police had recovered a .32-bore pistol from gangster Sohan Lal, a resident of Patti. He was among the most wanted gangsters in the state.
