Twentysix more patients tested positive for dengue today, which included 16 males and 10 females. The number of patients from Ludhiana has reached 536, while those admitted in city hospitals from other districts are 151 and those from other states are 19.
PGI recently conducted a study on the type of virus active this year and the result of the study has confirmed that DEN-2 virus is active this year. Fifty random samples of patients suffering from dengue were sent to PGI for checking as the department wanted to confirm if DEN-1, 2, 3 or 4 was active this year. In a majority of patients, DEN-2 virus has been found active.
District Epidemiologist Dr Ramesh said they have been regularly advocating people to keep themselves safe from mosquito-borne diseases by taking precautions.
“We are distributing pamphlets and meeting are also being held with colony residents to make them aware regarding the symptoms and how to protect themselves from getting infected,” he said.
DEN-2 virus active this year
Fifty random samples of patients suffering from dengue were sent to the PGI, Chandigarh, for checking, as the department wanted to confirm if DEN-1, 2, 3 or 4 was active this year. In a majority of the patients, DEN-2 virus has been found active.
Symptoms
The symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, vomiting, skin rash and mild bleeding.

Precautions
- Dry coolers once a week
- Use mosquito repellent and creams
- Conduct anti-mosquito spray every day, especially behind curtains and below tables
- Wear full-sleeve shirt
- Change water from pots kept in drawing rooms every week
- Don’t keep uncovered utensil, pots, tyres etc. on the rooftop or in the open
- Don’t allow water to store near houses
