Ignored in the first list of 217 smart schools of the state, three schools of the Gill segment have been shortlisted in the second list for a smart school tag.

Government Senior Secondary School, Dehlon, Government Senior Secondary School, Thareekey, and Government Senior Secondary School (Girls), Mansooran, figure among 39 government schools shortlisted in the new list for smart schools.

According to information, Dadhahoor in Raikot segment, Dhandari Kalan in Ludhiana South and Dhandari Khurad in Ludhiana East constituency segments would also have smart school facilities. The Department of Education has asked district level officers to submit details of play grounds of enlisted schools.

Residents who were infuriated earlier, have now paid gratitude to the Congress leaders led by Gill MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid for the role played in getting the schools included in the fresh list.

The Tribune had highlighted sentiments of residents who had requested the higher authorities including Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and the Education Minister to review first list and sanction at least one smart school in each block. Dehlon 1, Dehlon 2 and Pakhowal block have now been sanctioned one smart school each.

GSSS Dehlon principal Balwinder Singh Grewal said, “Teachers and residents were upset after finding names of the schools missing from the first list as everyone had worked really hard.”

He said they were told that the schools would be elevated to smart schools. Even technical officials had visited the schools for evaluating degree of preparedness but still we were left out.”

Grewal also appreciated MLA Vaid, whose sincere efforts resulted in selection of three smart schools in the segment.
