35 booked for attacking police party

LUDHIANA: Around 24 persons attacked a police party when the latter went to arrest the assailants’ aides in a month-old criminal case.

Around 24 persons attacked a police party when the latter went to arrest the assailants’ aides in a month-old criminal case. A day after the attack, the Meharban police registered an FIR under Section 353, 186, 225, 331 and 341, IPC, against Mohammad Gulsher, Kamal, Mohammad Gulzar, Kalam, Mohammad Sonu, Mohammad Sudam, Kalu, Islam and more than 30 unidentified persons.

Mohammad Sonu and Mohammad Gulsher have been arrested by the police.

Joginderpal Singh, Assistant Sub-inspector, said on May 6, an FIR under Section 295 (dacoity), IPC, was registered against Mohammad Gulsher, Mohammad Sonu and Mohammad Rasid, all residents of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar. On Friday, a police party went to arrest the accused wanted in the dacoity case. Several aides of the accused cornered the police party and tried to free them from police custody.

“There were more than 35 persons who cornered the police and attempted to free the accused. We put up strong resistance and did not let anyone to overpower us. We still managed to arrest the two accused. Now, raids are being conducted to arrest others,” said Joginderpal.
