As usual, the industrial hub of the state witnessed as many as 35 fire incidents during the Diwali night yesterday. Fortunately, all the incidents were of minor nature, and there was no major loss to the properties involved.
Although the calls received were of minor fire, all these kept officials of the Fire Department on toes.
Fire incidents were reported last night from the area, including Dholewal, Rishi Nagar, Dr Ambdekar Nagar, New Kuldeep Nagar, Transport Nagar, Moti Nagar, Focal Point, New Vishnu Puri, VK Dua, Field Ganj, Lakhsami Nagar, Kot Mangal Singh, Bharat Nagar, Model Town, Layalpur, opposite ATI college, Pratap chowk, near Neel Giri hotel, near Rishi Nagar, Dhandari Kalan, Tagore Nagar, Khwaja Kothi chowk, New Harkrishan Nagar, Jawahar Camp, Gurdev Nagar, Chimni road street no 5, and 8, Rahon road, Delon, Raman Enclave, Phillaur-Nurmahal road, Giaspura 33 Feet road, Gulchaman Gali and New Subash Nagar.
All incidents were reported from commercial establishments, shops, houses, hosieries, dying unit and at some empty plots. The fire brigade reached the spots on time, which prevented loss to properties.
The ‘malkhana’ of Dehlon police station also caught fire. However, no major loss was reported.
During last year’s Diwali, as many as 25 calls were received by the Fire Department. Out of these, loss of goods worth lakhs was reported only in two major fire incidents, including one at a factory in Khud Mohalla and another at a godown, situated near the Civil Hospital. Fire tenders took over five hours to douse flames in these two fire incidents.
