Ludhiana Commissionerate today claimed to have made adequate security arrangements in the city to keep law and order situation under control during the Municipal Corporation elections.
As many as 4,000 police personnel will be in the field to ensure peaceful completion of polling and to keep tabs on unwanted elements who could create tension during polling.
Police Commissioner RN Dhoke said there would be a total of 458 polling stations in the city with 1,153 polling booths. Of these polling booths, 280 had been declared sensitive by the police. “The police are keeping a close watch over anti-social elements. At all sealing points of the city, 12 special day-and-night nakas have been installed. At these nakas, each and every vehicle will be searched and suspected elements frisked. Around 30 police nakas have been installed at other strategic places, which will remain operational till the counting of votes. As per the security plan, 4,000 police personnel will be in the field,” Dhoke added.
Fortyeight teams would conduct patrolling in wards 24X7.
40 booked for noisy quarrel during campaigning
The Salem Tabri police booked 40 persons for resorting to noisy quarrel and hooting. Those booked belong to the SAD, the BJP and the Congress. A case under Section 160 of the IPC (punishment for committing affray) has been registered. The investigating officer, ASI Kuldeep Singh, said those persons were creating tension in the area, so the police registered a case against them.
