Ludhiana, June 14

As many as 453 people with various disabilities registered on the last day of the special nine-day camp, which began on June 4.

The camp was held at Sanmati Jain School, Sadar Market, in the Jagraon constituency. The camp was inaugurated by Ludhiana Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu.

“As many as 2,690 persons with special needs have registered during the 10-day long camp. Wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, speaking devices, artificial limbs and other items worth Rs 2.14 crore will be distributed among them free of cost,” said Bittu.

It was a unique initiative of the state government to provide a healing touch to the people with special needs, he added.

These camps were organised by the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department with the support of the district administration, he said.

“Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) has prepared lists after assessing the extent of the need of such people, who have attended the camps. All these items will be given to them within three months,” he added.
